In a double-blind, randomized, controlled design, a phase III clinical trial was carried out on 160 overweight and obese subjects (BMI range 25.0-40 kg/m²).
Individuals aged 20-60, receiving either Obex (n=80) or a placebo (n=80), alongside non-pharmacological treatments like physical activity and dietary guidance, formed the study group. Prior to the two principal meals each day, participants received either one sachet of Obex or a placebo for a duration of six months. In addition to the standard anthropometric measurements and blood pressure, the oral glucose tolerance test (fasting and 2-hour glucose), lipid profile, insulin, liver enzymes, creatinine, and uric acid (UA) were determined. Calculations for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), beta-cell function (HOMA-), and insulin sensitivity (IS) were performed using three indirect metrics.
After three months of Obex therapy, a remarkable 483% (28 out of 58) of participants achieved complete success in reducing both weight and waist circumference by at least 5% from their initial measurements. This stands in stark contrast to the 260% (13 out of 50) success rate observed in the placebo group (p=0.0022). Observing six months from baseline, no changes were found in anthropometric and biochemical measures across groups, apart from high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), which demonstrated higher levels in the Obex cohort compared to the placebo cohort (p=0.030). Following six months of treatment, both cohorts exhibited a decrease in cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as indicated by a p-value less than 0.012, when compared to baseline measurements. The results indicated that Obex intake was uniquely associated with reduced insulin levels and HOMA-IR, improved insulin sensitivity (p<0.005), and decreased creatinine and uric acid (p<0.0005).
Obex consumption, coupled with lifestyle modifications, elevated HDL-c, facilitated significant weight and waist reduction, and improved insulin homeostasis—effects absent in the placebo group—suggesting its safety as a complementary therapy for obesity treatment.

The investigation of organic room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) for the creation of long-lived luminescent materials has been substantial. An important aspect of this research is improving the efficiency of red and near-infrared (NIR) RTP molecules. However, the lack of rigorous studies on the linkage between fundamental molecular architectures and luminescence properties means that the variety and amount of red and NIR RTP molecules are still far from satisfying the demands of practical applications. Theoretical investigations of the photophysical properties of seven red and near-infrared (NIR) RTP molecules, using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT), were conducted in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and the solid state. Environmental effects in THF and the solid phase were considered when calculating intersystem crossing and reverse intersystem crossing rates to investigate the dynamic processes of the excited state. A polarizable continuum model (PCM) was used for THF and a quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approach for the solid state. Geometric and electronic data were gathered, Huang-Rhys factors and reorganization energies were scrutinized, and natural atomic orbitals were employed to quantify excited-state orbital information. The electrostatic potential distribution over the molecular surfaces was analyzed simultaneously with other processes. A retrospective, single-center study investigated the experiences of children in Nunavik and Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James who underwent general or thoracic surgery from 2011 to 2020. Descriptive statistics were applied to patient traits, factors predicting complications, and complications that presented during the post-operative phase.
