Methods: Critical reflections were based on a recently conducted maternal mortality study in Lilongwe, Malawi in which a facility-based maternal death review approach was used. The five-step maternal mortality surveillance cycle provided the framework for discussion. The steps included: 1)

Material/Methods: The study enrolled 124 Caucasian individuals (60 M, 64 F) with atherosclerosis risk factors – family history of premature ischaemic stroke, arterial hypertension, dyslipidaemia, overweight and obesity, cigarette smoking and low physical activity. The participants were asked to take FA in the low dose of 0.4 mg/24 h for three months.

Results: After FA supplementation a significant reduction of the VWF concentrations in females (76.6 vs

72.3%; p=0.028) and in males (75.5 vs 66.9%; p=0.001) was observed. The aim of the present work was to isolate and identify Bacillus thuringiensis isolates from soil samples using five approaches, viz., analysis of crystal protein production by microscopy; detection of cry gene content by PCR, SDS-PAGE profiling; cloning and sequencing; phylogenetic analysis; and toxicity testing. Two hundred soil samples were used for isolation of B. thuringiensis and a total of 69 putative isolates of B. thuringiensis that produce parasporal crystalline inclusions were isolated from 5,267 Bacillus-like colonies. A bipyramidal inclusion was predominant in 32.2 % of the B. thuringiensis isolates compared to other shapes. Crystal protein profiling of B.
